There were sixteen games played today as the regular season is starting to wind down. Pittsford came from behind to beat host Corning 8-7 in the closest game of the day. Thomas took Irondequoit by two (12-10) and Gananda beat Mynderse 11-8.

The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6.

After a close game throughout, the Saints took control at the end of the game and defeated Hilton at the very end of the first overtime period. Pittsford remained undefeated with an 11-7 win over Cazenovia.

Irondequoit has a 15-9 win over visiting Ithaca while Livonia used a last minute flurry to take Rush-Henrietta in overtime. Waterloo and Midlakes played a close game, but the Indians held on to their one goal lead for the win.

# 1457  2018 Season Wrap Up

Section Five lacrosse saw some changes in teams as Greece combined four schools into the Greece Storm and Livonia joined with Avon to form the Lakers. The Rochester city schools combined to form East United. With the changes and combinations, there were thirty-five teams and 942 players. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty players and Batavia had the smallest with sixteen.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2018 season. Senior offensiveman Reese Burek (Fairport), senior attackman Trevor Ford (Thomas), senior golaie goalie Chayse Ierlan (Victor), senior midfielder Alexander Mabbett (Victor), senior attackman Brady McDermott (Brighton) and senior midfielder Garrett Ruff (HF-L) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2018 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year`s contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Victor High School. The boys` game will start at 8:00 PM after the girls` play at 6:00 PM and the youth clinic which starts at 4:30.

# 1411  Tournaments Open with Three Upsets

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: As it happens in the outbracket round, upsets make for excitement and the 2018 edition saw three out of five games won by the lower seeded team. In Class B, Churchville-Chili avenged an earlier loss by beating Spencerport 7-5. Brighton and Canandagigua had no difficulty with their lower seeds by beating Brockport and Gates Chili. In Class D both out bracket games were won by the lower seeds as Waterloo defeated Marcus Whitman 9-7 and Bloomfield-Honeoye beat Mynderse 12-9.

# 1410  Week in Review: Week 8

The regular season ended on Friady with four of the five games played having an impact of the tournament seeding. Fairport, for example, played Corning and earned a 75% season with their win. Everyone team that played Fairport this year earned additional points toward seeding with that win. The Tournament seeding was released on Friday night and the games will begin on May 21st. Three hundred and eight games have been played thus far. Seventy out of Section games have been played. Section five teams have won forty-nine (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit ended the season at the top of their leagues.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: With only five games left in the regular season eight games were played today. Canandaigua (9-7) had eight players on the offensive book as they defeated Pal-Mac (10-6). Mark Belles had 2g-2a for the Braves. Geneva (10-6) was a 12-5 victor over visiting Greece Dugan Doeblin scored five goals and senior goalie Jacob Drennen finished with 11 saves (73%) for the Panthers. After a close half which saw Thomas (14-2) ahead 4-3, the Titans took control in their victory 11-5 over Pittsford (8-8).

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a bright Saturday, there were fourteen games played. Seven were with out of Section teams and the local teams won six. Fairport was a 14-12 winner over Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3). The Red Raiders led 10-6 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2.

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were fourteen games played today, some in the snow, but all in the cold. Most games were not very close but Mynderse fought back from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Waterloo 8-7. Penfield defeated Pittsford and Midlakes beat the Pride. Victor, Gananda and Thomas all remain undefeated.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: A couple of games were postponed, but fourteen were able to play today and three were one-goal games. Penn Yan scored their winning goal in the last quater as they defeated Westhill (Section 3) 5-4. Senior midfielder Austin Blumbergs led the Mustangs with four goals and sophomore goalie Jeff Kinyon made twelve saves (75%). Thomas used a goal in the last five minutes of the game to defeat Fairport 11-10 and Patrick Shanley scored an unassisted goal in the second overtime period to give Gananda the 9-8 win at Geneva.

# 1285  All Greater Rochester 2017

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year.

# 1260  Victor Heading to States for Fourth Straight Year

Victor won their fourth consecutive (and sixth overall) Section Five Title tonight with a 13-4 win over Canandaigua.  The Blue Devils have reached the finals five straight times, with their loss four years ago against Canandaigua in overtime 11-10 (HERE).  Tonight, the Blue Devils scored the first five goals and continued to hold at minimum a four goal lead the remainder of the game.

# 1250  Andrews Leads CA and Sets School Record

May 27, 2017 - Third seeded Canandaigua scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed in their 16-8 win over tenth seeded Churchville-Chili.  After defeating the seventh (Ath/Ody) and second (Thomas) seeds, the Saints fell to the Braves.  Churchville-Chili kept the game close for a half, before Canandaigua held them scoreless in the third quarter and extending their lead to 12-5.

Tenth seeded Churchville-Chili held off the late press by second seeded Webster Thomas to defeat the Titans 15-14.  Coming into the contest today, Thomas had previously defeated Churchville-Chili 20-15 in the second game of the season and had finished the regular season with a 13-3 record.

With one exception, the brackets played out as seeded on the first day of the 2017 tournaments. In the Class B, Irondequoit beat McQuaid. Irondequoit sophomore attackman Jack Brennan scored 4g-1a to lead the Eagles and in the cage, Patrick Hynes made 12 saves (80%). Irondequoit will move on to Victor on Wednesday.

Churchville-Chili scored the final two goals in the fourth quarter to re-take the lead and defeat Schroeder 7-6.  The battle was a back and forth defense match between the two teams.  Schroeder goalie Anthony Deleo recorded 10 saves (59%) and Churchville-Chili goalie Mike Miara recorded 15 saves (71%).

In what some were calling a possible Class B final, Victor took an 8-1 half to a 17-3 win against Webster Thomas as nine Blue Devils made the offensive scorebook. Freshman attackman Joey Pezzimenti led the scoring with 4g-1a. Chayse Ierlan made 13s (87%) in 38 minutes for Victor. Nick Mabe scored 2g for Thomas.

Irondequoit held off the late advances by Churchville-Chili to defeat the Saints 14-12.  The game was close for the first half, before Irondequoit took off in the second half on the back of Jack Brennan.  Brennan had 1g-2a in the first half and 6g-1a in the second half.  His was part of 7/9 goals in the second half.

DAY IN REVIEW: McQuaid Jesuits fought back from a 10-6 score at then end of the third quarter and forced a tie ended in overtime when Liverpool earned the win. Jack Billitier led the Knights with 2g-3a. Pal-Mac also used overtime to win their game with Wayne and a game that was close throughout. Kasey Gallina led the Raiders with 3g-1a and Jared Hurlbutt was credited with 12s (57%). For Wayne, Jon Ecker led with 3g.

Jacob Buck tied his school record for most goals in a single game in the 16-15 Churchville-Chili win over Spencerport.  He finished with 8g-1a for the Saints.  Historically this was the 17th consecutive win for Churchville-Chili over Spencerport.  The last win for the Rangers was eleven years ago.  Today’s game was close throughout with the largest lead being a three goal lead late in the game for Churchville-Chili (16-13).  During the contest both teams lead and neither could pull away.  Both teams survived 3 minute non-releasable stick penalties with only 1 goal against for each team.

Austin Blumbergs scored an unassisted goal just 0:21 into the second overtime period to give Penn Yan a 7-6 win over Haverling. Blumbergs scored a total of 3g-1a to be a part of four out of seven goals.  The Rams led for the majority of the game, with Penn Yan only leading for 1:39 throughout the entire contest.

Churchville-Chili remained undefeated with an 11-8 win over Canandaigua. The Saints have faced the Braves seven times in the last five years and this is only their second win. The game was a close contest with the lead changing hands four times and the game tied at 1,2,3,5 and 6. A key factor in the game was man-up opportunities.

Churchville-Chili only led their game for less than one minute but it was the final minute and they won the game 11-10. Gates Chili led or tied for the first 47:03 before Churchville-Chili scored the final goal of the contest to secure their win. The Spartans were looking for only their second wins over the Saints (Churchville-Chili lead 13-1 in last ten years).

After a scoreless first quarter, Churchville-Chili scored three goals during a non-releasable penalty to start off scoring on their way to a 13-10 win over Spencerport. The game was all about scoring runs. The first quarter had no scoring with both goalies coming up with big saves. Matt Cobb (Churchville-Chili) had 4 in the first quarter and nine overall and Connor MacKenzie (Spencerport) had 5 in the first quarter and eleven overall.

Churchville-Chili remained undefeated with their 8-5 win over Webster Schroeder today. This is the first time that the Saints have defeated the Warriors since 2011. Overall the series stands at 4-3 for Schroeder. The Saints didn't take their first lead until the second quarter when they scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead.

# 550  C-C Over Hilton in Overtime

Churchville-Chili remains one of five undefeated teams in Section Five with their overtime win over Hilton, 13-12. The Cadets led for most of the game before Churchville-Chili took control in the fourth quarter. With an exception of two minutes in the first quarter, Hilton led or tied for the first 38 minutes. Hilton scored the first two goals in under two minutes with goals from Hunter Duford and Zeus Doser.

Churchville-Chili scored three of the last four to secure the 16-13 win over HF-L and at 8-0 remains one of only four undefeated teams left in the section. The Saints played strong in the beginning and end of the game but, in what has become a pattern, they could not pull away from their opponents and allowed HF-L to stay in the game well into the second half. The Cougars led going into the second half before Churchville-Chili outscored them 7-3 in the second 24 minutes.

Churchville-Chili continued their undefeated season with a 13-12 win over Brighton. The Saints took the lead late in the second although Brighton kept the game close, for the second half. Brighton held the lead twice (late first and early second quarter). Churchville-Chili scored the first three with goals from Corey Yunker, Ryan Mead and Jason Tebo. Tebo scored 4g in the game, including his 100th career goal. Brighton scored their first goal with 5:59 remaining when Brett Randall scored the first of his 5g-2a. The Saints added their fourth, with Jacob Buck scoring off a feed from Yunker.

# 442  Semi: Canandaigua Over C-C in OT

Canandaigua fought back from a 10-5 deficit at the end of the third quarter to force overtime and then won 12-11 over previously undefeated Churchville-Chili. The Braves never led and only had the game tied twice (1-1 and 11-11). They scored when it mattered, in sudden death overtime, to secure the win. The Saints took control of the game for three quarters before the Braves fought back in the fourth. As the Braves got closer and closer to a tie game, they became more amped up and the Saints had more trouble staying in the lead.

Ierlan (Victor), midfielder Ryan Maloney (Victor) and midfielder Jamie Trimboli (Victor) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.
